About Us

The Saugerties Area Youth Lacrosse (SAY-LAX) mission is to provide the youth of Saugerties  and its surrounding areas (Woodstock, Catskill, Mountain Top & Cairo) access to America's first and fastest game on grass, Lacrosse.
 
SAY-LAX is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, established in 2006 under Bob Slate and re-booted in 2019. We are sanctioned under US Lacrosse and a verified partner of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL).
 
In addition to having a Kindergarten through 2nd-grade recreational program, our Boys & Girls travel teams (grades 3/4 & 5/6) compete  in the Mid-Hudson Youth Lacrosse League and the Empire North Lacrosse Association.  SAY-LAX conducts its programs at the Saugerties High School.
 
In partnership with parents and coaches we strive to ensure that children are provided a meaningful, enjoyable, challenging and safe lacrosse experience. We are an athlete-centered organization that places the needs of children first. We give each player the opportunity to participate to the best of their ability and to develop as a young athlete.
 
Together, we will nurture the physical and emotional well-being of all children in an environment that fosters and promotes a sense of community. We are guided by the values of good sportsmanship, honesty, respect for all individuals and personal integrity. SAY-LAX is committed to the long-term growth and development of all levels of developing lacrosse players. Our success will be measured by more children who enjoy playing and participating in lacrosse in the future.

Coach Robert "Bob" Slate

Founder of SAY-LAX

Once arriving in the Hudson Valley his love of the sport of lacrosse continued as he served as a Assistant Coach at Marist College and in 1991 he was named the first head coach of the Kingston High School Varsity Lacrosse Team a position he held through 1998. In 1999 he brought the Lacrosse Program to Saugerties High School and became the first head coach of the Saugerties Varsity Lacrosse Team.   His teams went on to win several league and sectional titles.   For the youth, he started the SAY-LAX program to teach the sport to the youth of Saugerties.  He was involved with the Niners lacrosse travel team and ran summer youth lacrosse camps as well.
